Puerto La Cruz, a city in Anzoategui, is located in Venezuela. Capital of the Juan Antonio Sotillo Municipality, Puerto La Cruz is one of the most important cities of the state. With a population of around 220,000 inhabitants, the city is an important Eastern Venezuelan economic and financial centre.
The city experiences a mild subtropical climate characterized by a dry and a wet season. The wet season lasts from May to November and the dry season from December to April.
Initially inhabited by the Spaniards, the Christian Mission of Pozuelos was founded in 1780. The city was soon inhabited by inhabitants from Margarita Island.
Tourism and fishing are the main sources of economy of the city. The city is also home to an oil refinery, the most important one in the country, and a number of ports.
