Puerto Cabello is an important city in the state of Carabobo, and it is the largest port in Venezuela. This city lies to the west of Caracas at a distance of 75 km. The city was founded in the sixteenth century.
Puerto Cabello has an area of about 729 sq km and is inhabited by approximately 154,000 people. The economy of the city is dependent basically on the shipping industry. The major items that are shipped from its ports are meat, coffee, dyewoods, copper ores etc. The presence of the port has also given a boost to the nearby oil and chemical plants.
Located on the Mediterranean Sea, Puerto Cabello has a tropical climate with hot and humid summers and cool and pleasant winters. The winter months being drier are a good time to visit the city; however, it can be visited throughout the year.
