Home to various festivals, Venezuela’s largest festival is the Carnival, best celebrated in El Callao. The Drumming Feast of St John, celebrated in July, includes dancing, purification rituals and wild, loud drumming with people falling into a trance.
The Procession of the Holy Shepherdess is one of the most colourful traditional festivals of Venezuela. The festival features a procession of the statue of the ‘holy goddess’, from Santa Rosa to Barquismeto, accompanied by musicians, celebrants and devotees.
The entire country celebrates the festival of la Cruz de Mayo, May Cross Celebrations. It is a traditional festival, held all over on the third of May, involving a feast and many other festivities.
