Santa Cruz lies in the O’Higgins Region of Chile. It is located about 90 km to the south of Rancagua (the capital city of the O’Higgins Region) in the heart of the Colchagua Valley.
The population of this little agricultural town is a little over 30,000 inhabitants. The town is watered by the Tinguiririca River, which crosses just to the north of the city and feeds the Rapel Dam. In the summer months, Santa Cruz is hot and dry during the day, with cool nights because of the maritime influence.
The area is known to be one of the most significant agricultural regions in the Southern Hemisphere and is acknowledged for its fine wine production. Besides wine, its agriculture is based on wheat, maize and tomato. Santa Cruz is also known for its wicker crafts and other handicraft shops.
