Punaauia is a small city in French Polynesia and is located on Tahiti Island. With a population of 25,700, it is characterised by a tropical climate that is marked by hot and humid days. The best time to visit Punaauia is during the months of July and August, but it is also crowded during this period. The average annual temperature is around 28°C.

It is believed that the early settlers in this region were basically migrants from Southeast Asia, and it was only in 1767 that Europeans began settling on this island. Some years later, the Catholic and Protestant missionaries also arrived.
 
Punaauia’s landscape comprises volcano peaks, dense tropical vegetation, valleys, waterfalls, clear lagoons and beaches. The tourism industry, fish exports to Japan and the production of black pearls forms the backbone of Punaauia’s economy.
