Ovalau is the primary island of the Lomaiviti archipelago. Its main town Levuka still bears the stamp of its past as a whaling town. The Levuka Museum houses a section of the Fiji Museum and also doubles up as a community centre. The Sacred Heart Church with its neon green cross; the Mission Hill, a war memorial now lined with some of the oldest houses of Levuka; and Niukaubi Hill, another war memorial offering a spectacular view from the top are worth a visit.
Yanuca Lailai also known as the Lost Island because of its untouched beauty is ideal for trekking, snorkelling or simply enjoying the island’s virgin beauty. The island of Moturiki is of great archaeological interest as it is believed to have been the home of one of the oldest cultures of the Pacific region.
While large parts of Lomaiviti are untamed, some of the islands like Koro and Wakaya do have resorts catering to tourists.
