Lautoka is a clean, well-planned city that has all modern amenities expected by international travellers. As the base for sugarcane cultivation, the city is host to this industry’s headquarters, Fiji’s largest sugar mill, modern loading facilities and a large wharf.
The city’s shopping centre is located near Vitogo Parade, Naviti Street and Yasawa Street. Tourists enjoy visiting the massive municipal market, which sprawls over 58,000 sq m. Other prominent tourist attractions include Abaca, handicraft markets and duty-free shops. Day cruises to the several island resorts in the area can also be arranged.
Vuda Point is a popular destination because of its marina and the surrounding hotels and motels. Gastronomes are spoiled for choice; Chinese, Indian, Italian, Fijian, European, Korean and Vegetarian cuisines are all on offer. Lautoka has one major annual festival—the Sugar Festival—held during September each year.
