Lying at the mouth of River Connecticut, the city of Old Saybrook is in Middlesex County in Connecticut, USA. Prior to the European settlements, this region was inhabited by the Algonquin Nehantic Indians. Incorporated in 1854, this city occupies an area of approximately 56 sq km and houses a population of around 11,000.
Old Saybrook has wide biodiversity as well as a diverse landscape. Rivers, hills, marshes, woods, creeks, lakes, wetlands and a lot more can be found in this picturesque city.
Due to its location on a prime river, this city’s major commercial activities were coastal trade and trans-shipment. It gradually became an important harbour where ships from Asia, Africa and other parts of the world anchored.
