Attractions

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is often referred to as ‘the Met’. It had its humble beginning on 20 February, 1982 at 681 Fifth Avenue, New York. With an increase in its collection, the museum shifted house to the eastern region of Central Park.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art owes its very first collection to John Taylor Jackson, a railroad executive, who donated his personal art collection to the Museum. Now, it has expanded, with about seventeen departments dedicated to art from various regions. The collection also extends to photographs and musical instruments.

Exhibiting some of the most invigorating and amazing pieces of art, the ‘Met’, is also home to some fine libraries. The museum in fact boasts of a collection that ranges beyond mediaeval and modern art.
