Located at the junction of the Rio Puerco and Little Colorado rivers, Holbrook is the county seat of Navajo County in eastern Arizona, USA. Flanked towards the north with striking canyons containing pre-historic cliff-dwellings, it serves as the gateway to the Petrified Forest National Park. Spread over an area of 40 sq km, it has a population of over 5,000.
Originally established as a ranching and farming centre, it has now become a hub for explorers, travellers and businessmen. It is named after HR Holbrook, the first chief engineer of the Atlantic and the Pacific Railroad.
In summer, the average temperature in summer is 23°C, while in winter the average temperature is around 2°C.
It is an important trade centre for north-eastern Arizona. Home to the Navajo and Hopi Indian reservations, tourism is also important to the local economy.
