Named after Jean Lafitte, the park is a fine example of the rich cultural resources of the region and consists of six unique park sites which represent the vibrant cultures of the Mississippi Delta Region.
The Barataria Preserve is a huge park and preserve which contains nature trails, canoe tours, walkway and picnic areas. Set in hardwood forests, it also has a visitor centre and regular exhibitions.
A famous place is the Chalmette Battlefield and Cemetery where visitors can take guided tours through the graves of the soldiers of war. It features ranger presentations, exhibits and screenings of the historic site.
The historic French Quarter, Lafayette and Charenton are other interesting sites which interpret the history of the region and its diverse cultures. |
