The state has a very diverse ethic population with ancestries like Mexicans, Germans, Irish, British and Filipino among others. The California Gold Rush in 1848 was one of the largest human migrations in history which resulted in a huge population growth in the state.
California is home to some of the best known attractions in the world, such as the Disneyland Resort and the Hsi Lai Temple (the largest Buddhist temple in the west). The San Francisco Chinatown is one of the largest in the country and offers excellent Chinese shopping and cuisine. Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge are two of California’s most recognized symbols. Also a ferry ride away is the infamous prison island Alcatraz. The Hollywood district offers attractions like Beverly Hills, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and Walk of Fame.
This colourful and festive state is home to events like the Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade (a 75 year old celebration), the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee (held over Memorial Day weekend), Palm Springs International Film Festival (one of the largest cinema events in the USA held in early January), and the quaint Annual California Strawberry Festival (featuring musical entertainment and a plethora of arts and crafts). |
