Tepic is the capital of and the largest city in the state of Nayarit in Central Mexico. Located on the banks of the rivers Mololoa and Tepic and at the foot of the extinct Sangangüey volcano, Tepic is a picturesque town.
Founded in 1542, the city became a bustling centre of agriculture and commerce after the construction of the railroad in 1912.
The climate is typically warm and humid all-year-round. The average annual temperature is 21°C, with rains from July till September. Travel can be avoided in April and May, the hottest months.
Once a Spanish colony, Tepic retains this influence, and coupled with the Native American tribe culture, it offers an eclectic mix of people. The population of 300,000 mainly practices farming owing to the rich natural resources of the area.
