Tourist guide Colima City

Colima City is the capital of the state of Colima in Western Mexico. The name ‘Colima’ comes from the Nahuatl (indigenous language) word ‘collimait’ where ‘colli’ means ‘ancestors or gods’, and ‘maitl’ means ‘domain of’, aptly describing the beauty of this region. Colima is commonly known as the ‘City of Palms’, for its many palm trees.

The climate is cool and humid for most part of the year. The annual average temperature is around 19°C with maximum rainfall between July and September. Summer is the best time to visit, with comfortable temperatures and minimal rainfall.

The city was colonized by the Spanish, prior to which there were native Indian settlements, lending Colima a multicultural atmosphere.

With a population of 570,000, the main occupation in Colima is agriculture and allied activities.
