Yucatan has a rich history evident in its many archaeological sites such as the Chichén Itzá archaeological zone, which displays ancient Mayan ruins over 10 centuries old such as temples and pyramids. Balankanche Cave, a ceremonial site for the Mayans located in a stalactitic limestone cave must be visited. The Kabah archaeological site has monuments in the traditional Puuc style of architecture. Evidence of inhabitation since at least 600 BC has been found at the Dzibilchaltun archaeological site. For a unique experience, visit the town of Valladolid and try swimming in Cenote Zaci, a semi-opened well, 80-m deep. Explore the Loltun Caverns with stalactites, stalagmites, petroglyphs and rupestrian paintings. Nature lovers can visit the El Palmar Ecological Reserve. |
