Guerrero: Introduction

Guerrero, Mexico has an area of 64,281 sq km and about 3,115,200 inhabitants. Its capital is Chilpancingo.

Guerrero shares its boundaries with the Mexican states of Estado de Mexico, Morelos, Michoacán, Puebla and Oaxaca and is bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean. The topography of this region is dominated by the Sierra Madre mountainous range and several rivers.

Guerrero was mainly inhabited by Indian tribes such as the Nahua, Tlapanecs and Mixtecs before being occupied by the Spanish. The population here is mainly Mestizo (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry).
