Timisoara, also called ‘Little Vienna’ because of its Kaiser-era architecture, is one of the most important cities of western Romania. It is also the capital city of Timis County, which borders Hungary. The Bega River flows through the city. Timisoara has an international airport operating several daily domestic and international flights.
Timisoara’s continental climate imitates that of the general western region of the country. The cold and snowy winter is usually from December to April, with temperatures below 0°C. On the other hand, summer temperatures can rise as high as 30°C.
The population of the city is estimated to be around 330,000. Apart from being one of the largest cities and economic centres of Romania, Timisoara also has an important historical element because the Romanian revolution took place here.
