Tourist guide Gdansk

Gdansk, or Danzig as it is known in German, is Poland’s sixth largest city located in the Bay of Gdansk and on the shores of the Baltic Sea. It has a rich historical heritage, owing to its 1000-year-old history and its distinction of being the ‘launching site’ of World War II.

Gdansk, together with the towns of Sopot and Gdynia, forms the Tri-city or Greater Gdansk. There are regular bus and train services between the 3 cities allowing for commercial and tourist movement. The capital Warsaw is just 4 hours away by train.

The average temperature in Gdansk ranges anywhere between –2°C in winters and 23°C in summers. On average, rainfall is around 10–200 mm. The population in Gdansk consists of more than around 500,000 people. It is an important industrial centre and acts as a ferry port.
