Trondheim is the third largest city of Norway. This city of approximately 162,000 inhabitants is located at the mouth of a river. Most of the old historic part of the city lies on an island which is linked to the mainland by bridges.
Trondheim experiences a maritime climate, but fortunately, the sea winds are not too strong or severe. July and August are the warmest months with the average temperature at 18°C.
Through the Middle Ages, Trondheim was one of the most important spiritual centres; pilgrims would flock here in the hope of magical cures. In the last 50 years, it has developed into a high-tech modern city and is referred to as Norway’s Silicon Valley.
The Trondheimsfjord along which the city is situated boasts of the best marine life in the country.
