Apeldoorn is located in the centre of Netherlands, in the province of Gelderland. The western part of the city is spread over forest-covered hills dotted with small lakes; on the other hand, the eastern part lies in a wooded valley.
The best time to visit Apeldoorn is spring or summer. July and August are the warmest months with the average temperature at 22°C. Rainfall is spread across the year. Winter temperatures occasionally go below freezing point.
Apeldoorn was a largely rural community till about a hundred years ago. But with the start of several development programmes in the region, it soon turned into a flourishing city.
This city of approximately 155,400 inhabitants is often referred to as ‘Royal Apeldoorn’ as it has played host to many royal visitors over the years.
