Trapani has many structures from the medieval times and the early modern era; most of them have been built in the dramatic Baroque style. The town’s historic centre lies on the land jutting out into the sea. Beautiful palaces and churches are lined on the Via Garibaldi, one of the most beautiful streets here. The tree-lined main square, Piazza Vittorio Emmanuele is close to the fish market and the streets housing the best shops.
Palazzo Senatorio is the elegant town hall built in pink marble and is surrounded by several other ornate buildings. The Cattedrale and the Church of Santa Maria di Gesu are known for their beautiful façades and some fine pieces of art and sculpture.
The charming medieval town of Erice perched on a hilltop makes for a good one-day trip from Trapani. Trapani is the best place to reach the Egadi Islands, popular with visitors fro their sunny beaches and bays.
