Sassari, capital of Sassari province, is located on the north-western part of Sardinia, Italy. Sassari, the second largest town in Sardinia, is a popular university town. With a population of around 120,000 inhabitants, the city is an important administrative and commercial centre of Sardinia.
The city enjoys an ideal Mediterranean climate, characterised by hot, dry summers and cool winters with occasional rain showers.
Initially inhabited by the Tathari group, the area gained importance during the twelfth century when the city became the capital of the Torres Guidicato.
The economy of the city is maintained by the commerce, agriculture and the food processing sectors. Textiles, printing, construction, and tourism also account for a large proportion of the economy.
