Pienza is a small town nestled in the Tuscany region of Italy. This town of approximately 2,200 inhabitants has been included on the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Pienza is surrounded by the Val d’Orcia, a valley which remains to this date unexploited and unspoilt.
The best time to visit this region is between May and June or between September and October, as the climate is pleasant with the temperatures averaging at 22°C. In summer, temperatures tend to hover around 30°C.
Pienza is one of the first planned urban towns. It was planned by Pope Puis II with the intention of building a town in the true Renaissance style. It was considered to be so well-planned that the model was then used as a basis for towns all over Europe.
