Orvieto is a quaint, dramatic city in Umbria, Italy, enclosed by defensive walls. The city is home to a population of about 22,000 inhabitants. The scenic location, charming medieval character and Gothic architecture, make Orvieto one of the most unique and interesting cities of Italy.
Blessed with a pleasant climate throughout the year, Orvieto has warm, dry summers and mild winters. Rainfall is concentrated in the autumn season. The best time to tour the city is in February, March and October when the climate is mild and vegetation, lush.
Earlier known as Velzna, the city was a flourishing Etruscan settlement with the main occupation being ceramics production. Today, the city’s main occupations include tourism, pottery, agriculture and handicrafts.
