Lipari, the largest of the Aeolian Islands, is situated along the north coast of Sicily, Italy. Located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, Lipari is dominated by the Mount Chirica. With a population of around 11,000 inhabitants, the city is a major tourist spot, bringing in more than 200,000 tourists during peak season.
Lipari experiences a mild climate, characterised by hot and pleasant summer days. July and August are the hottest months here and the island experiences occasional short showers.
The history of Lipari is greatly influenced by the history of Sicily and Calabria. Initially inhabited during the Neolithic times, the island was soon occupied by the Greeks followed by the Turks. The island also witnessed a number of pirate attacks.
Tourism, agriculture and fishing account for a large portion of the economy in Lipari.
