Assisi: Vacations and Tourism

Assisi is a medieval town in Umbria, Italy with a population of around 25,000 inhabitants. Known to be the birthplace of St. Francis, it holds great religious and historical importance. The Roman ruins, the charming streets and the sacred shrines make the town a popular pilgrimage centre in Italy.

Characterised by a Mediterranean climate, Assisi has warm, dry summers and rigid winters. Rainfall is a constant feature, except in the summer months. Assisi can be visited during any season, but spring and fall witness maximum tourist traffic.

The town was settled around 1000 BC by the Umbrians and has long been a sacred place. Even today, visitors will find well-preserved medieval streets and constructions. Tourism is the main source of revenue followed by agriculture, particularly food products.
