The Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara are the most attractive treats here. While the former is known for its scenic beauty; the latter, with its rugged terrain, is a treat for any archaeology enthusiast.
Dereen Gardens on the Beara Peninsula with mossy paths, rhododendrons and bamboo groves is a beautiful place. The Kenmare Heritage Centre museum conducts heritage trails and nature walks with a complete tour of the various historical sights within the city.
The Poor Clare Sisters convent here is the home of Kenmare Lace, which is renowned the world over for its beauty and quality. It was during the potato famine in Ireland that Mother Superior Sister Cusack began the lace-making industry by training the women.
Kenmare Walking Festival, held during May–June every year, is very popular and enables one to explore Beara and parts of Kerry. In May, the city of Killarney hosts the International Rally of the Lakes which draws huge crowds.
