There are no health hazards in Ireland, but one still needs to take some basic precautions. The weather can be unpredictable so make sure to carry some raingear. It is preferable to apply suntan cream when going out as the summer winds can leave a burning effect on the skin. Medical insurance is also advised when visiting the country.

As of March 2004, smoking in all public places has been banned and can attract a penalty. It is also an offence to drink in public. Crime in Ireland is low compared to other European countries, but do avoid late night walks or making a public display of your electronics or possessions when in a large city.

The Irish can be very sensitive to noise ‘pollution’. When attending a call in public, try to make sure that your voice is kept to a minimum and that the phone call ends quickly. A baby crying for a longer-than-tolerable period of time or a group of adults talking and laughing loudly can lower your image in the eyes of the public.
