Ennis, situated on River Fergus, is the capital of Clare County in mid-west Ireland. The county is clearly defined with low rolling farmland, lakes and a coastline with sea stacks rising from the sea.
The county town of Ennis has a pleasant climate with mild winters and warm summers. As a result, any time is ideal for a visit to this place.
Founded as a market town around the castle of the O'Briens of Thomond in 1250, Ennis, with about 24,200 inhabitants, is fast developing as an administrative centre and tourist attraction. It has also earned the title of an ‘Irish Technology Town’.
In this county, though agriculture is on a decline, the services sector is improving with tourism contributing in a big way. The Shannon Industrial Duty Free Zone and the International Airport have provided a boost to the economic growth of this county.
