A spectacular prehistoric site is the burial chambers at Newgrange, a World Heritage Site. The Kilkenny Castle at Kilkenny (called Ireland’s medieval capital) boasts of a rich heritage and has an antique collection and art gallery. More historical monuments can be found at the picturesque Cliffs of Moher (which are entirely vertical and stand at 200 m) in County Clare.
The ancient Drombeg Stone Circle is a remnant of the Iron Age, while the Ring of Kerry is a beautiful area with lush greenery and seascapes. The Aran Islands are an archipelago of three tiny islands which offer some astonishingly beautiful scenery.
At Letterkenny, one should visit the towering St Eunan’s Cathedral and the Cathedral Square which is home to the recently-built Celtic Cross (the largest of its kind in Europe). Skellig Michael (a sixth century monastic settlement) can be found on a small island which is accessible by a small boat from Port Magee.
