Icelandic cuisine is generally based on fish and lamb. The salmon of Iceland is a great delicacy; gravlax, a form of marinating, is a popular form of having the salmon. Local specialities include hangikjot (smoked lamb), harðfiskur (dried fish), skyr (curds) and Icelandic sild (herring marinated in various flavours). A wide selection of European spirits and wines can be found. Brennivin, a brew made from potatoes, is a local drink.
