Nyireghaza is located in the north-eastern extreme of Hungary. This city of approximately 117,000 inhabitants is one of the country’s fastest growing areas largely due to its development as a tourist centre and a student town.
Nyireghaza enjoys a continental climate. Summer is the best time to visit; winter temperatures tend to be harsh. The climate is very dry and the region sees very little rainfall.
At the end of the Middle Ages, Nyireghaza was the biggest town in the region; it had all the makings of a prosperous settlement: a town hall, schools and even a restaurant. Its prosperity was accelerated even further once the city got a railway line.
