Zakynthos is a part of the Ionian Islands in the country of Greece. Also known as Chora, the region houses a population of around 42,000 inhabitants. Zakynthos has a thriving tourism industry owing to its beautiful beaches, panoramic views and excellent facilities.
The mild Mediterranean climate that typifies the region has also endowed it with dense vegetation. Summers are hot with it being one of the sunniest places in Greece. Winters are cold and wet with most of the rainfall concentrated in this season. Spring is a pleasant time to tour the place.
Inhabited since the Neolithic Age, Zakynthos had to suffer a series of earthquakes in 1953, which resulted in destruction of the island and its infrastructure. The town developed gradually, and today, mining, tourism and agriculture are the main aspects of the economy.
