Sifnos is a scenic island in the Cyclades region of Greece. Also known as Apollonia, this mountainous island has a permanent population of about 3,000 inhabitants. This region is a major tourist destination with olive trees and the deep blue sea creating a picturesque landscape.
A Mediterranean climate prevails in this region with summers being sunny and winters, mild. Rainfall is heavy but rather infrequent with snowfall and frost being regular visitors. September is the best time to visit the place for the pleasant weather and minimum tourist traffic.
Inhabited since the Neolithic Age, Sifnos was a wealthy region in ancient times with all its gold and silver mines. Pottery production has long been an important occupation followed by tourism and agriculture.
