Lefkada is an island which belongs to the Ionian Islands group in the Ionian Sea, Greece. It is connected to the mainland by a causeway and a bridge. The capital of the island, Lefkada city, lies in the north of the island.
The island has verdant forests and a mountainous terrain. Lefkada experiences a typically Mediterranean climate. It is characterised by hot, sunny summers and mild, rainy winters. Temperatures rarely rise beyond 35°C in summers. A distinguishing feature of Lefkada from other Ionian Islands is its thermal winds which can get really strong in some parts of the island.
The island has an approximate population of 19,400. Lefkada is very popular with the tourists, but the island still remains largely underdeveloped.
