Ios is famous for its nightlife with a number of discotheques operating in Chora. There are many beaches here, but the most famous is Mylopotas. In fact, it is one of the most famous beaches of Greece and popularly known as ‘the party island of Greece’.
Chora is very beautiful village with typical Cycladic architecture; it is surrounded by a network of stairs. Chora boasts of 365 churches, one for each day of the year.
The ruins of the Temple of Apollo lie close to Agia Aekaterini church. At the top of Chora is the chapel of Agios Nikolaos and under the Venetian castle, the church of Panagia Gremiotissa. Built in the fifteenth century, the ruins of the castle are an interesting site for visiting. Chora also has an Archaeological Museum
The burial of the famous poet Homer, who wrote The Iliad and Odyssey, is said to be in Ios. Every year, on 15 May, Homeria, the Homer Festival, is celebrated in Ios and a flame is carried to his tomb in Plakoto.
