Freiburg is located in the southern part of Germany close to the Swiss and French border. It is almost entirely surrounded by mountains and hills.
Freiburg is considered to be the warmest city in the country. July and August are the warmest months with the average temperature at a pleasant 23°C, but it does get humid at times. During winters, though, the temperature consistently falls below freezing point.
This city of approximately 214,000 inhabitants is known as the eco-city. This is because the citizens are reputed for their dedication towards recycling and power-saving.
Freiburg started off as a small market town because of its location close to the many trade routes criss-crossing across Europe. It is home to one of the oldest universities in the country and is still a hugely popular student town.
