Port Vecchio, a small town on the Island of Corsica, is located in France. Situated in the commune of the Corse-du-Sud department, Port Vecchio is the third largest town in Corsica. The city has a total population of around 10,300 inhabitants.
It has an ideal Mediterranean climate, characterised by hot, dry summers and cold, rainy winters. Western winds prevail all round the year.
The town of Port Vecchio, popularly known as the ‘City of Salt’, was built on salt-water marshes that were drained to develop the city into a major harbour zone. Today, the town houses the second largest harbour station in Corsica.
Rated by James Boswell as ‘one of the most distinguished harbours in Europe’, Port Vecchio is home to rich culture and traditions. The tourism industry along with wine exports accounts for a large portion of the economy.
