The construction of this cathedral began in 1163, with Pope Alexander III laying down its foundation stone; it was completed in 1345. It is an important historical and religious site, sacred to the Celts, Romans and Christians alike. It is also the site of the coronation of Napoleon.

The entire structure, from the windows to the façade, is a marvel to view. Some of the major attractions are the sculpture of Adam and Eve at the entrance, the statue of Saint Joan of Arc and the rose windows. Stories from the Bible are painted on the portals, ceilings, walls and stained glasses of the cathedral. A climb up to the towers ensures a breathtaking view of Paris.
