Marseille: Vacations and Tourism

Marseille is situated on the southern border of France. With more than 800,000 inhabitants it is the second largest city of France and its most important commercial port.

Marseille has a Mediterranean climate with very little rain throughout the year. Spring is the best time to visit, although there might be a few chilly days. It often has the hottest summer in the country with an average temperature at 28°C. Though winter is mild; the average temperature is 10°C and the Mistral wind can cause an uncomfortable dip.

From the time it was founded by the Greeks and then passed on to the Romans and finally to the French, it has always been a successful trading port. Its location on the Mediterranean Sea put it on some very important and busy trade routes, giving it the title of ‘the meeting place of the whole world’.
