Perched on limestone cliffs and surrounded by the sea water, Bonifacio is laid with cobble-stoned streets, and most of the town’s original architecture is still preserved.
In the Upper Town, the Gothic-style St. Dominic Church stands out because of its bell tower, which is in the shape of an octagon; carved wooden figures stored in the church are carried out during the town processions. The St Marie Majeure Church served as a meeting place for the decision-makers of the village.
The Bastion showcases the important moments in the history of the town. For a feel of Bonifacio as it was in the Medeival ages, take a stroll down ‘the covered way’ which winds around the fortified area.
Excursion boats can be used to visit the Lavezzi islands, a nature reserve, as well as caves and other landmarks in the area. The Marina serves as the trading port for the city but is also the spot for fun and merriment; it is here that the nightlife of Bonifacio unravels.
