Finland : Attractions

In the Finnish capital, the Helsinki Cathedral (housing a statue of Emperor Alexander) towers over the city’s historical centre, which has nineteenth century architecture like the City Hall and the President’s Palace.

When visiting Finland, be sure to visit Moomin World, a popular theme park often said to be the Finnish answer to Disneyland. One can also reaffirm lost faith in Santa Claus by visiting the northern Lapland region which houses Santa’s Post Office.

At Savonlinna Lake, one can find Olavinlinna Castle (the finest preserved medieval castle in northern Europe). Equally beautiful is Suomenlinna Castle, which consists of five islands and is listed as a World Heritage Site.

Other popular attractions include The Pike’s Gut (famous for its fifteenth century rock carvings), Turku Cathedral (an impressive medieval structure built in Gothic-style) and the hidden Valamo Monastery (Finland’s only Orthodox monastery).
