There are no major health risks in Denmark. There is a small risk of tick-borne encephalitis in forested and rural areas, especially during summer. Those visiting such areas must take precautions to prevent tick bites; wearing long trousers and using insect repellents is advisable. Outbreaks of bird flu have been reported, but it does not pose a serious risk to travellers. Contact with wild and domestic birds should be avoided and all poultry and egg dishes should be well-cooked. Free emergency treatment is available to all foreign visitors.
Denmark is a trouble-free country with low crime rates. However, necessary caution must be maintained by all travellers, especially during the tourist seasons. During this period, pickpockets and bag-snatchers become active. Visitors must be careful in crowded areas such as markets and train stations; personal belongings should not be carried with oneself.
