Prazske jaro (Prague Spring) International Music Festival in May and June, the Prague International Book Fair in May and the Mozart Festival in September are popular events. Český Krumlov’s International Music Festival which is held every August in the river town attracts a large crowd.
On 30 April in Prague, Paleni Carodejnic (Burning of the Witches), a pre-Christian festival for warding off evil, is celebrated. On Easter Monday, the old pagan tradition of Pomlázka is celebrated where men swat their favourite women on the legs with decorated willow switches. Khamoro is the Festival of Roma culture, a week-long celebration with events and concerts held in several different venues. Christmas in Prague, with the decorations and the markets, creates a lively atmosphere.
