Cyprus has a wealth of architectural beauty dating back to ancient times. The ruin of the Sanctuary of Apollo at Kourion is an example of Roman influence in the country’s heritage.

On the south-west coast, one will come to the rock of Petra tou Romiou which is said to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. In Larnaka, Lazarus Tomb can be found in the crypt of the Agios Lazaros Church. Lazarus was believed to have been resurrected from the dead by Christ.
 
The Chrysoplitissa at Pafos is easily the most spectacular building around. It was constructed in the fourth century and is one of Cyprus’ biggest early Christian basilicas. Also at Pafos are the St Paul Pillar, the Catacombs of St Solomon and the excavated Roman villas.

Two of Cyprus’ must-visit castles are the Limassol Castle (built in the fourteenth century and boasting two Turkish minarets) and St Hilarion Castle (which is blended into the mountains and has a great view).
