Agia Napa, in Cyprus, is a coastal village on the Greek-controlled southern half of the island. This village has a population of around 1,000, but in the peak season, it hosts upwards of 10,000 tourists. In the past few years, it has become as famous for its parties as Ibiza.
With the most Mediterranean climate that you can find, the summers are hot and dry and the winters are warm and wet. Tourists are warned not to travel during the hot and humid summer. Spring, with temperatures around 24°C, is the best time to visit Agia Napa.
The local legend says that a hunter discovered an icon of the Virgin Mary accidentally when he was chasing his prey. In 1500, a monastery was built around a cave to honour the icon, which was named the Virgin Mary of Agia Napa. Today, this monastery is most famous symbol of the city.
