Bulgaria : Events and Entertainment

Bulgaria is home to a number of celebrations. Important public holidays in Bulgaria include New Year’s Day (1 and 2 January), Liberation Day (3 March), Bulgarian Army Day (6 May), Cyrillic Alphabet Day (24 May) and Independence Day (26 September). There are festivals that are specific to particular community.

Wine growers celebrate the festival of Trifon Zarezon on 14 February each year, and the custom of pruning the wines and sprinkling them with wine has been practised from ancient times. The Koprivshtitsa International Folk Festival is held every five years and has around 4,000 finalists. The festival is marked by parades, competitions, performances and so forth. Kukeri and the Festival of Roses are the other important celebrations in the country.
