Sarajevo, capital of this country, has got through a period of harshness and
war, but, at present, it is a tourist resort again! Due to its geographical
position, since the ancient past, it has always been a sort of gateway for Greeks
and Asians to or from Europe. During the years Sarajevo has experimented different
civilizations, cultures and traditions that now cohexist on the same land.Little
by little Sarajevo is changing its aspect in better: schools, sports facilities,
restaurants, streets embellished with new trees and streets lamps! Sarajevo,
important for its food and tabacco industry, is also the seat of an Orthodox
Eastern metropolitan, a Roman Catholic archbishop, and the chief ulema of Bosnia's
Muslims. The Turkish old town partly rebuilt, houses the National Library.
