Ganca or Ganja is the second largest city in Azerbaijan. In Persian, Ganca means ‘treasure’. Located on the banks of the Ganca River, the city has a populace of over 300,000 residents. Ganca is one of the most important cities in Azerbaijan, culturally and economically.
The climate of Ganca is subtropical in nature, which means it remains dry for a major part of the year. Summers are long and hot whereas winters tend to be mild and dry. Rainfall is received in the form of sporadic short showers.
For a while now, Ganca has been Azerbaijan’s major industrial centre. The economy of the city consists of textile, furniture, aluminium, porcelain and other small scale industries.
