Tourist guide St. James

St James is located in the western part of the country of Barbados. The land is mostly flatland in a series of terraces to the coast. The coast itself is surrounded by beautiful coral reefs. The climate is tropical and breezy, and the best months to visit are between December and April.

The parish of St James has a population of about 20,000. Most of the population has descended from the former African slaves, although there are also some British and other ethnic groups.

The first British settlers landed in St James in 1625; the region was named after King James, under whose authority they laid claim to the island of Barbados.
